The Empordà is a land with a great historical medieval past. Proof of this are all the castles that we can visit today, scattered throughout the territory.
When you visit Càmping Mas Nou, you will be encouraged to visit these spectacular castles, which are only a few kilometres away.

Castell de Peralada (Alt Empordà): 20 min. away from the campsite by car. It’s an impressive building, built on 1285 and used as residence and as a display of power by the lords of Peralada. Nowadays only some of its parts can be visited, as it’s used as headquarter for Casino Peralada, the Museum, Restaurant and also the International Music Festival of Peralada.
Castell de Sant Ferran (Figueres, Alt Empordà): 20 min. away. Located upon a hill and built as a defence system against the French troops, it’s the biggest monument in all Catalonia. It consists of 32 hectares which can be visited with tour guides and Jeeps both inside and outside the fortress,
Castell de Requesens (La Jonquera, Alt Empordà). An hour of journey away from the campsite we find the fortress of Requesens, a perfect opportunity to combine sight-seeing with a cultural visit. The castle is hidden in the mountains of Albera, a Natural Area of National Interest.

Castell de Begur (Baix Empordà): An hour away. A fortress strategically located upon a cliff, offering marvellous views of the coast (Illes Medes, Badia de Roses) and all of Empordà until the Pirineus.
Castell del Montgrí (Torroella de Montgrí, Baix Empordà): 40 min. away. For those of you who enjoy foot trails, you need to know you’ll have to walk around 45 min. to get to it, as the castle is on the top of the mountain of Montgrí. The castle was built by King’s Jaume II command on 1924 as a display of superiority towards the other lords of Empúries.
You can’t miss this trips, a cultural activity which older and younger ones will enjoy alike. The kids will meet on first hand the scenarios of their tales and their knights and princesses games!
