Today we want to tell you about one of the most emblematic Natural Parks in Catalonia: the Empordà Wetlands. It is a protected space of a vast extension which spans from the foot of the Rodes Range to the mouth of river Fluvià.
Empordà Wetlands date back to 1983 and are regarded as the second most important Natural Park in Catalonia. Its biological wealth makes it of huge touristic interest, as a great variety of animals -both autochthone and exotic- take refuge there during the migration seasons.
The closures are one of the most characteristic features of the Wetlands. They are green and flourished fields surrounded by trees which go along the edge of small drainage canals and occupy the landing of old lakes which get flooded when it rains. That’s why many birds feel attracted to this place when they are looking for shelter.
For this reason, located at only 5 km from Camping Mas Nou, the Park becomes a great viewpoint and an ideal place to go hiking with your family and friends. If you visit it, don’t forget to share your experience with us!
