Have you ever dreamt traveling to Ancient Greece? Or walk through a Roman village? In Costa Brava’s heart, in Sant Martí d’Empúries-L’Escala, and a few kilometers of Camping Mas Nou, there is the unic archaeological site of the Iberian Peninsula where live the remains of a Greek and a Roman city: the “Ruïnes d’Empúries” (Empuries ruins)
Greeks named the place “The Emporion”, which means shopping center. This name was with the purpose that the city became in a commercial crossroads and a harbour in the Mediterranean Sea.
The first Greek construction was in VI century BC! Later in the I BC, the Romans raised the city. It is this mixture of cultures that makes “Ruïnes Empúries” a privileged zone to understand the evolution of Greek and Roman urbanism and analyze it at the end of the Republic period and its later changed.
This archaeological site is one of the headquarters of the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia and you can participate in different activities where you can discover the splendor of these two cultures in our land. Throughout the year there are workshops for children, guided tours and shows. In addition, you can enjoy the nearby beaches with an autochthonous tres: Pines
